Peter C. Donshik, M.D.
Dr. Donshik has practiced medical and surgical ophthalmology in the greater Hartford area since 1976. He sub-specializes in corneal and external diseases of the eye, laser vision correction, contact lenses and corneal transplant surgery.
Dr. Donshik attended the University of Chicago before earning his MD from New York Medical College. He interned at New York's Metropolitan Hospital, and performed his military service at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Donshik trained in ophthalmology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and was a two-year fellow at Harvard Medical School's Massachusetts Eye and Ear and the Eye Research Institute of the Retina Foundation, where he trained in corneal and external eye disease, corneal transplant surgery and contact lenses. Dr. Donshik has also received specialized training in refractive surgery.
Dr. Donshik, a much-honored ophthalmologist; he is a Diplomat of the American board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Ophthalmologic Society. He is a clinical professor at the University of Connecticut Health Center and former chief of its Ophthalmology division. Dr. Donshik received the American Academy of Ophthalmology's Honor Award and Senior Achievement Award, and was honored for his teaching by the Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists (CLAO) and Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO). He is a member of numerous Ophthalmological societies, including The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, The Cornea Society and The Contact Lens Association of Ophthalmologists, of which he is Past President and Emeritus Editor of the Eye and Contact Lens Journal (CLAO Journal). Dr. Donshik serves as the President of the JCAHPO Foundation. He was recognized as one of the Best Doctors in America (1997-2004) and America's Top Ophthalmologists (2004-2005).
Dr. Peter Donshik, respected researcher and author, has published over 90 articles in national and international journals. He lectures nationally and internationally on contact lenses (their problems and complications), corneal and external diseases (allergy, corneal inflammation, and dry eyes), corneal transplant surgery and refractive surgery.
